PM Oli Highlights Investment, Employment, and National Pride Projects in Parliament

Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has reaffirmed the government's commitment to legal and institutional reforms aimed at boosting investment and employment in Nepal. Speaking at a House of Representatives session, he emphasized efforts to enhance production, productivity, and job creation to address youth unemployment.
The government is offering concessional loans of up to Rs 2.5 million to support startup enterprises, with 1,000 individuals set to benefit from the program in the current fiscal year.
Strict Action Against Foreign Currency Misuse
PM Oli warned of strict legal action against those involved in misappropriating foreign currency under the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, 2021 BS. However, he assured that investment exchanges in the information technology sector are being facilitated.
Quoting Article 25 of Nepal's Constitution, he highlighted citizens' rights to acquire, sell, and transact property under legal provisions, adding that land ceilings and a progressive tax system have been enforced accordingly.
Future Prospects of Free University Education
PM Oli noted that free and compulsory education is already in place up to the basic level, while secondary education remains free. He hinted that free university education could be considered in the future based on available resources.
On corruption-related punishments, he clarified that capital punishment is unconstitutional, citing Article 16 of Nepal’s Constitution, which upholds the right to live with dignity and prohibits the death penalty as per international commitments.
Commitment to ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’
The PM reiterated the government's vision of "Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali," focusing on socialism-oriented economic growth, equitable wealth distribution, and universal development access. Various social security programs and the Social Security Fund have been implemented to support this goal.
Timely Completion of National Pride Projects
PM Oli assured that the government is serious about completing national pride projects such as the Sikta Irrigation Project and the Babai Irrigation Project. He revealed that Rs 22.43 billion has already been allocated for outstanding project liabilities from the 2080/81 fiscal year.
To improve development efficiency, project planning has been structured with input from the National Planning Commission and relevant ministries. PM Oli also stated that he personally monitors key projects via the ‘Action Room’ at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, ensuring timely progress and optimal resource utilization.
